PESHAWAR: As the deadline for filing nominations ends today (Sunday) for candidates wanting to contest the upcoming elections, TikTok star Sundal Khattak has also filed his nominations for a women’s reserved seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, putting an end to his ties with politics.
Speaking to Geo News, Sundal said she joined politics to solve the problems of her hometown, which she said suffers from a lack of basic amenities such as gas, electricity, and water, as well as poor road infrastructure.
“[My] goal would be to empower women,” she added, explaining her political agenda.
Replying to a question about her political party membership, TikToker, real name Sundal Shamim, said she had received offers from several political parties to join them.
The social media personality, however, refrained from naming names, saying she could not reveal her political beliefs at this time.
Sundal, a former associate of fellow social media personality Hareem Shah, came into the spotlight after he was reportedly embroiled in a controversy over posting a video with Hareem Shah—a claim she vehemently denies.
After filing a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Hareem was assigned a case but was released on bail by a local court in Islamabad in June.
“After hearing all the arguments, the court approved the release of Sundal on bail after his arrest,” his lawyer told Geo News.
“No evidence was found on Sundal’s phone, and no such evidence was found during the investigation. According to the rules of TikTok, immoral videos are not allowed to be uploaded on TikTok. Whoever made this video got Hareem Shah’s approval, and she was smiling in the video. Sundal Khattak has no role in it nor did she create the video or make it viral.
Sundal had appeared before Judge Azam Khan of the Electronic Crime Prevention Court.
